Leadership Wilmington Alumni Council Tour of CFPUA's Sweeney Water Treatment Plant
Members of the Leadership Wilmington Alumni Council are invited to tour CFPUA’s Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. The Sweeney Plant is the largest water treatment plant in our community, sourcing raw water from the Cape Fear River and providing drinking water to approximately 80 percent of CFPUA’s customers in Wilmington and New Hanover County. During the summer months, Sweeney treats as much 20 million gallons of drinking water each day.
Construction is nearly complete on new Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filters at the Sweeney Plant. CFPUA undertook a $46 million project to add these state-of-the-art filters in response to PFAS such as GenX in the Cape Fear River. This tour will take LWAC members inside the new GAC filter facility for an up-close look at the water treatment process.
RSVP REQUIRED: Due to space limitations, this tour is limited to 20 people. Attendees must RSVP by Tuesday, August 9 to reserve their spot.
This is an active construction site and closed-toed shoes must be worn. CFPUA will provide PPE to all attendees.
Please arrive at Sweeney by 11:45 a.m. the day of tour, which will begin promptly at noon.
