Wilmington largest annual community event is being recognized nationally. The North Carolina Azalea Festival is in the running for a USA Today/www.10Best.com reader poll of the nation’s finest flower festivals. Wilmington’s annual event is one of 20 up for the prize. Other nominees include the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California, and the Philadelphia Flower Show.
This years Azalea Festival will take place April 6-10, 2016, and will feature the queen’s coronation, a parade, garden party, riverfront street festival, concerts by Chase Rice and Snoop Dog, and much more.
As of today, Wilmington was in third place. Votes can be cast until 11:59 a.m. March 28. This is the third USA Today travel poll that has recently featured Wilmington. In October 2014 the city took first for “Best American Riverfront,” and in August downtown was honored as “Best Al Fresco Dining Neighborhood.”
