Two deserving Leadership Wilmington (LW) graduates will be recognized for their community involvement and outstanding contributions during the 2013 session and to the class project, Work On Wilmington. Awards will be presented at a social at the Chamber on Thursday, August 8th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm recognizing the Karl Davis Leadership Wilmington 2013 Alumnus of the Year Award and the Outstanding 2013 Class Member.
This award is given annually in memory of Karl Davis, a visionary and a Wilmington leader, a graduate of Leadership Wilmington, and the former general manager of our local NBC affiliate, WECT. The recipient of this award must be a graduate of Leadership Wilmington. The nominee must also, in the opinion of the selection committee, contribute significantly to the enhancement of the community through inspirational and visionary leadership, and, must also contribute significantly to developing leaders within the community.
Last years’ award winners were Margaret Robison (Cape Fear Community College), who was honored as the 2012 Alumnus of the Year, and Kristen Beckmeyer (Coastal Cupcakes), who received the Outstanding 2012 Class Member.
Leadership Wilmington is a program of the Wilmington Chamber Foundation. The objective of LW is to educate, challenge and motivate leaders and future leaders to utilize their leadership skills to work for the betterment of our community. The ten-month program consists of eight all-day sessions, an orientation social, a two-day retreat to begin the program, Work On Wilmington, and a graduation ceremony.
