City Goes Green with LED Street Lights

The City of Wilmington has just finished converting more than 200 street lights to environmentally friendly LED lights, which will also save more than $10,000 a year. LED lights reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in keeping with the US Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Initiative approved by City Council.

The city leases approximately 8,000 streetlights from Duke Energy Progress and plans to convert all of them to LED over the next few years, including those located in city parks.
